Note: Guidebook is also a great way to share contact information with other admitted and enrolling students.

Shuttles from parking to campus begin

If you are driving to campus, please report to West Denny Circle for parking (for navigation apps, it’s best to input Liberty Hall Ruins). We will have staff to direct you and a shuttle to transport families to the main campus. 

8:00 am

Check-in, Breakfast, and Optional Tours

Check-in will take place by Graham-Lees. We will have staff to direct you. Optional tours depart from the Cannan Green Tent at 8:30am:

  • IQ Center Tour – Learn about our state-of-the-art teaching and research suite, the Integrative and Quantitative (IQ) Center, which features equipment for microscopy, motion capture, data acquisition, imaging, prototyping, and more!
  • Special Collections Open House – Home to an extensive art and artifact collection, the Special Collections and Archives in our library maintains rotating exhibits open to the public, while its vault provides a treasure trove of rare books, documents related to the founding of the nation, and records of the history of W&L.
  • Harte Center Open House – Located in the library, visit the Harte Center for Teaching and Learning to learn about academic resources like peer tutoring, the writing center, research support, learning guidance, registration help, and academic coaching.  
  • Lenfest Center Tour – Walk through the Lenfest Center for the Arts with a student tour guide. Peek into classrooms, learn about music, conducting, studio art, dance, theatre, and our other arts offerings! 
  • Duchossois Athletic and Recreation Center Tour – Explore the campus hub for fitness and wellness in a tour that showcases the recently renovated facility, lovingly known as DARC.  This is a tour for any interested student!

Families interested in knowing more about financial aid and who have not already scheduled an appointment with the Office of Financial Aid later in the day are encouraged to attend.

Please swing by and talk to a financial aid officer if you have specific questions about your award, or if you would like to schedule an appointment 1:1.

Welcome Session in the University Chapel

In this official kickoff to Admitted Students Day, hear from Sally Stone Richmond, the Vice President for Admissions and Financial Aid, and a keynote address from a current W&L student.

Breakout Session #1: Get the Scoop on Life at W&L

  • Admitted Students: “Ask Me Anything” Panel with current students in Wilson Hall, located in the Lenfest Center for the Arts
  • Parents/Guardians/Families: “Parent-to-Parent” Panel in the University Chapel
11:00 am

Breakout Session #2: “Opportunities at Your Door” 

  • Career and Professional Development (CPD) – Location: Stackhouse Theater in Elrod Commons – CPD supports both students and alumni in achieving their career and professional goals through advising, resources, programming, and events. Hear from a CPD staff member as well as current students about how they have discovered new opportunities through CPD. 
  • Spring Term Abroad – Location: Wilson Hall in the Lenfest Center – one of the hallmarks of W&L is our unique, 4-week term that often features classes that travel abroad. Learn about this distinctive opportunity from a Center for International Education staff member and students who have gone abroad in prior Spring Terms!
  • The Shepherd Program – Location: Mattingly House – a truly interdisciplinary experience, the Shepherd Program for the Study of Poverty incorporates classes, research, internships, volunteering, and community engagement to understand the complexities that connect poverty and inequality in Rockbridge County and across the country.
  • Fellowships – Location: Northen Auditorium in Leyburn Library – have you ever wondered how students are able to fund their dreams at W&L? One pathway is by applying to a nationally competitive fellowship. W&L is a top producer of Fulbright and Goldwater scholars and has had three Rhodes Scholar winners in the past eight years. Hear directly from staff in the Fellowships Program on how we support students in these endeavors that enhance the learning experience beyond the classroom setting.

  • Peek inside a first-year residence hall (self-guided open house of Graham-Lees Residence Hall)
  • Campus tours (abbreviated to 30-45min)

Breakout Session #3: “Student for an Afternoon” and “Supporting Our Students”

  • Admitted Students: “Student for an Afternoon” – select one mock lecture to attend and visit the academic fair. Lecture titles and locations will be posted on the Guidebook app in the week leading up to the event.

    • 1:45 pm Sociology and Anthropology lecture from Professor Christopher Brown
    • 2:30 pm Earth and Environmental Geoscience lecture from Professor Margaret Anne Hinkle
    • 2:30 pm Classics lecture from Professor Michael Laughy
    • Academic Fair: 1:30pm – 3:15pm in the Doremus Gymnasium 
  • Parents/Guardians/Families: “Supporting Our Students” – attend the Resources Meet-and-Greet and Academic Fair
    • Resources Meet-and-Greet: 1:45 pm – 2:30 pm in The Great Hall in the Science Center
      • Dining Services, Health and Counseling, Office of Inclusion and Engagement, Disability Resources, Residential Life, and more
    • Academic Fair: 1:30 pm – 3:15 pm in the Doremus Gymnasium
